Warnock Wins Georgia US Senate Race!

Spread The Love

Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock of Georgia is headed back to the US Senate.

Top News Today :
On Tuesday, the incumbent US Senator beat Republican challenger Herschel Walker in a hotly contested runoff race that officially put an end to the 2022 election season and the previously expected Republican “red wave.” Neither candidate received at least 50% of the vote during the November midterms which forced this winner-take-all election.

Warnock

With 99% of the vote in as of this writing, Sen. Warnock received 50.9% of the vote while Walker received 49.1%. Initially, the Georgia runoff was expected to decide which political party would control the US Senate. However, Democrats held control at an even 50-50 (with Vice-President Harris breaking any tie votes) when incumbent Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto won reelection in Nevada during the November election. Now, Democrats have won 1 additional seat — a victory that will no longer require the vice-president to break a tie and will weaken the power of Democratic holdouts such as Sen. Sinema of Arizona and Sen. Manchin of West Virginia.

“I wanna say thank you from the bottom of my heart —  and to God be the glory,” Sen. Warnock said during his victory remarks.  “After a hard fought campaign — or should I say campaigns — it is my honor to utter the 4 most powerful words spoken in a democracy: ‘The people have spoken.'”

Warnock

Political pundits are already dubbing the loss of Herschel Walker as a loss for Donald Trump. Trump hand-picked Walker (and squashed other more qualified GOP candidates) because he believed Walker’s ethnicity (both Walker and Warnock are Black), as well as his NFL history as a Heismann Trophy winner, would work to his advantage — particularly among Black voters. However, an unending stream of verbal gaffes and stories of vampires, contradictory positions on abortion and multiple children out of wedlock, as well as a perception of utter incompetence sank the former pro football player long before a single vote was cast. Additionally, a fast-rising anti-Trump tsunami among Republican voters ultimately worked against Walker in the end.

With the State of Florida increasingly becoming a Republican stronghold, Georgia is surprisingly becoming somewhat of a “blue” state. Joe Biden won in Georgia during the 2020 presidential election. Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff defeated Republicans David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler soon thereafter. Now, Georgia has reelected Sen. Warnock to a full 6-year term. Metro areas like Atlanta (with a sizeable amount of African-American voters) are credited with turning the once-ruby-red State of Georgia into an unexpected purple.

So, as of January of 2023, Democrats will remain in control of the US Senate and will gleefully return to Capitol Hill with 1 extra victory in their back pocket just for good measure.

Good morning DJ!

I’m not sure if there are a few more votes left to be counted but if there are – those votes will most likely come from Democrat “Blue” counties (Fulton and/or DeKalb) since (I believe) all the Repub “Red” counties actually completed their vote-counts last night.

Anyway, as of this morning, Warnock’s win stands at: Warnock 51.4% vs Walker 48.6%

It was a real nail-biter and my babysis was freaking out..lol

But I kept assuring her that in the end, he would win!

I live in Atlanta and some friends were freaking out too. I told them calm down because I knew we had it. The ads here against Walker these past few weeks killed him.

Truthiz1

Lol..yeah, she was having a fit watching the lead go back and forth.

(on a sidenote)….

Hey Wil, I love visiting your city. I could not live there – Savannah is more my cup of “Sweet tea”…Lol

But I do enjoy visiting Atlanta!

Mr.BD

Hey Wil a buddy of mine down there said that is all they were playing was political ads in Georgia. I know you will be glad to see all that off the tv.

NPR: Incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock’s win in the Georgia Senate runoff could have far-reaching consequences legislatively and politically for Democrats. “The truth is it’s not a 1% difference,” Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York said earlier this week. “It’s a world of difference.” Warnock’s win now gives Democrats firm control of the Senate and makes life easier for them in a number of ways. It gives them a cushion in trying to pass bills, assured committee control and eliminates procedural hurdles to carry on the business of the Senate. For Schumer, Warnock’s triumph means he does not have to again negotiate a power-sharing arrangement with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Democrats now have enough wiggle room to lose one vote in their caucus and still move bills through the chamber without issue. Not only will Vice President Kamala Harris not likely have to be called in for as… Read more »

I watched Herschel’s concession speech. It was short (about 60 sec), positive and to the point. But he even took a jab at Trump, which makes his decision to allow himself to be USED by Trump and the Repubs all the more disgraceful.

Herschel knew he had no business running in the first place!

Now he may have done real damage to his relationship with the only child he seems to care about. Christian Walker – who btw went off on his dad and Trump and the Repubs last night when the election was over:

‘After Herschel Walker’s Defeat, His Son Piles On With Twitter Tirade’

Christian Walker, the estranged son of Herschel Walker, had harsh words for his father and the Republican Party as Georgia’s Senate race was called. – New York Tines, Dec. 7, 2022

Hey Truth I saw the speech too and you are talking about what he said about the constitution. But I am not sure Walker is that smart to have known what he even said.

Truthiz1

Lol…yes BD, the man is “slow.” But think he knew what he was saying or at least trying to say.

Truthiz1

And I probably should have started with this first……

@ Sen. Warnock and ALL of the great people of Georgia who voted for him:

CONGRATS! Well Done!

I am especially proud of MY own kinfolks in GA (and there’s a lot of them) who were in that number!!!

And let the church say amen.

At one point last night I thought those Repub racists in Georgia was going to actually put Walker in there. Then Atlanta came in and took care of business. Repubs are crying today but it is their own fault. Herschel Walker never should have been running.

Mr.BD

Repubs are on tv crying about early voting hurt them and they wish their voters did early voting. But Trump told them it was corrupt so most of them do not do participate. Now Repubs finally see that is a problem. Just dumb.

Since their midterm whippin’ on Nov. 6, elected Repubs in my home-state may finally be getting a bit of a clue. ‘Pennsylvania Republicans reconsider their war on mail voting’ [GOP officials in the state are coming to the belief that it’s better to work within the system than politically die by it. For the past two years, Republican officials in the critical battleground state of Pennsylvania have blasted mail voting, firing off lawsuits and bills aimed at crippling the balloting method that has become increasingly popular post-pandemic.  In the wake of a midterm cycle that proved disastrous for them, they’re wondering if their antipathy to the idea cost them the election. “There’s no question in my mind that Republicans have to have a different mail-in strategy,” said Andy Reilly, a Republican National Committeeman in Pennsylvania. “When one party votes for 30 days and one party votes for one, you’re definitely… Read more »
