WHAT’S NEXT FOR HILLARY?
According to recent political buzz in Washington, there are two theories floating around regarding the future of Hillary Clinton:
The first theory is that in 2012, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden will swap jobs. Some believe the so-called political “dream” ticket of Barack Obama/Hillary Clinton would be a slam dunk to get Mr. Obama re-elected over Sarah Palin or whoever the Republicans put forward as their nominee. There are still plenty of Hillary supporters out there who’d love to see their heroin break the glass ceiling and get into the White House — even if it is only as Vice-President. And most political insiders believe Hillary Clinton could handily beat Sarah Palin any day of the week. This move would also perfectly set up Hillary to run for the presidency herself in 2016, something Joe Biden has already made known he is not interested in doing. In becoming Secretary of State, Biden could virtually run U.S. foreign policy, which he is said to favor much more than remaining second fiddle in the White House. And the Democrats would have a powerful candidate in Hillary Clinton ready to roll come 2016.
The second theory is that Hillary may soon be named to the U.S. Supreme Court. The White House is already anticipating one, possibly two vacancies on the nation’s highest court as early as this spring, giving President Obama the ultimate and rare power to put his personal stamp on the high court. Justices John Paul Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg may imminently step aside for reasons of age and health, which could be a perfect opening for Hillary. Some say all the pit-falls and lessons learned during the last presidential campaign took the steam out of Hillary Clinton. So she may not be looking to go through the fire once again. But if Mr. Obama is a one or two term President, Hillary still has many years left to give to public service. So if she’s no longer Secretary of State and if she’s not running for President herself, what could she possibly do to top her current role? Supreme Court Justice is a permanent position and would give her an enormous amount of power to shape public policy. She would answer to no one, would never have to campaign or play politics again, and could settle into her role and her senior years in her own way. Hmmm…
Interesting take on things. I never really thought about what Hilary wants to do next. But I don't think she has interest to run again for president into her seventies. My guess is she ends up at the Supreme court.
