The truth is, Donald Trump’s brand had plummeted, he was low on cash, and he had a plethora of loans coming due (with no real means of paying them). He also realized the presidency could protect him from certain legal entanglements. So, he ran.

He sure as heck didn’t expect to win but he saw running for president as an easy way feed his pathetic ego, and play his supporters and make as much money as possible off the entire venture.
