Donald Trump is so infuriated over the January 6th House Select Committee getting the best of him by getting down to the truth, that he has stooped to witness tampering.
Politics :
According to CNN, Trump has become so nervous about legitimate witnesses turning on him and cooperating with the congressional committee, that he recently telephoned one former White House staffer to “chat” about their upcoming testimony. Since the staffer doesn’t have a “Lets-chat-on-the-telephone” type of relationship with Trump, the person became suspicious and alerted their attorney. The attorney then contacted Congress and the congressional committee turned the information over to the Department of Justice.
Committee Vice Chair Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican, revealed earlier this week that Trump “tried to call” the unnamed staffer and engage in witness tampering. She added that the witness “declined to answer or respond” to his multiple calls.
“We will take any effort to influence witness testimony very seriously,” Cheney said Tuesday during the hearing.
Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democratic, labeled Trump’s attempt to call the staffer as witness tampering and said it was concerning enough to involve the Department of Justice.
“From my vantage point, it is highly unusual to do that, and that’s why we more or less put that in the hands of the Justice Department, for them to make that decision,” Thompson said when asked if there was enough evidence against Trump to prove he was attempting to intimidate a witness.
“We are concerned about witnesses’ safety.”
Interestingly, this was not the first time Trump has been accused of witness tampering regarding the January 6th inquiry.
Prior to White House insider Cassidy Hutchinson delivering a damning deposition to the House committee, Trump also attempted to influence her testimony.
According to Rep. Cheney, Hutchinson received a call in which someone said: “(A person) let me know you have your deposition tomorrow. He wants me to let you know that he’s thinking about you. He knows you’re loyal, and you’re going to do the right thing when you go in for your deposition.”
Clearly, this was a thinly veiled attempt to influence and intimidate the witness and tamper with testimony.
“This has been an ongoing pattern and we’re trying to send the message that witness tampering is a crime in the United States of America,” Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin, who serves on the committee said. “People should not be approaching witnesses to try to get them to alter their testimony,” he added.

That is exactly right. He’s done it before…and probably too many times to count throughout his entire disgraceful adult life. It’s his “go to” scare tactic whenever he feels the walls closing in or he fears his control over someone and/or something and/or situation is slipping away.
He’s consistently predictable. Whatever the “wrong” thing is in terms of action taken…well THAT’s exactly what he’s going to do. The wrong thing. Every time!
