ZIMMERMAN BACK TO JAIL?

Spread The Love

It’s been one week since George Zimmerman was released from jail on bond for the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.  But new information regarding his actual financial status could return the neighborhood vigilante back to jail as soon as this week.

During the bond hearing, Zimmerman and his attorney, Mark O’Mara, plead that Zimmerman was indigent and incapable of paying a large bond.  Believing his claims, the sympathetic judge ignored the prosecutor’s request for a $2 million dollar bond and instead set bond at $150,000.  Zimmerman was released from jail simply by paying 10% of the bond, which was $15,000.

But new information came to light late last week that Zimmerman’s short lived website, where he solicited donations via PayPal, had collected a whopping $200,000 in just a short period of time.  Had the court been aware of this large sum of tax-free money, it likely would have set the bond much higher, or could have denied it completely.  Now, Zimmerman finds himself back in the fire pit.

Attorney Mark O’Mara appeared on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” last Thursday and admitted that there had been an “error” in calculating Zimmerman’s wealth. Judge Kenneth Lester, who presided over the bond hearing, was reportedly livid that this information was kept from him and was revealed on national television instead of being brought directly to the court. In light of this new information, not only can Zimmerman’s bond be revoked, but he could now face perjury charges if the court finds he purposely misled them.

Since his release last week, Zimmerman has been in hiding and virtually in a self-invented jail of his own.  A number of threats against his life and the lives of his family members have made it necessary for him to seek shelter under the radar.  But if Judge Lester decides to revoke the bond hearing, Zimmerman will once again find himself behind bars and hoping protective custody will keep him safe.
