‘Wokeness’ Goes Wrong For Conservatives
Here’s a word to the wise: if you don’t really know what the word ‘wokeness’ means, it’s probably a good idea not to use or challenge it.
Current Events :
Let’s begin this story with a bit of a history lesson. The term ‘wokeness’ originated in Black culture and was used to warn Black Americans to stay ‘woke’ (slang for ‘awake’) to the politics and events around them — meaning to stay alert, keep your eyes open, and avoid being fooled. However, being the racists that many of them are, conservatives, Republicans, and MAGA misfits took the term and turned it into a buzzword that denotes something bad and ugly invented by Blacks and liberals.
Sadly (for her), Chaya Raichik — who is an anti-LGBTQ+ conservative — apparently didn’t get the memo in time to not use the word if she didn’t understand its history. So, she made an absolute fool of herself recently in front of 40+ college students to her huge embarrassment.
According to Yahoo! News, Raichik recently gave a speech about wokeness to what was supposed to be a group of college Republican students at Indiana University. She went on a tangent about her despise for wokeness in schools, college campuses, the workforce, and the streets, claiming it’s “being shoved down your throat wherever you go.”
However, her confident rant went sideways when a student asked her to define the term ‘wokeness.’
“Wokeness is the destruction of normalicy [sic] and… And… Um… Uh… of our lives,” she attempted to explain while the students roared in laughter at her misuse of the word ‘normalcy’ and obvious ignorance of what she was saying.
GOP Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana was in attendance and attempted to rescue his conservative cronie by defining wokeism as “anti-Americanism.”
He went on to explain that the word is the belief that “all inequalities of today are attributable to not only historical injustices but also continuing injustices in the now.” He also added: “I’m sick and tired of being taught that America isn’t worth fighting and dying for, it’s a great country, it’s the greatest country in the history of the world.”
However, when a former campaign staffer for Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts pushed back and questioned why Republicans have become so confrontational about efforts to raise a broader awareness of racial prejudice and discrimination, the congressman caved.
“We’re going to have to stop this because it is going nowhere,” Banks said.
At that moment, one of his aides walked over to the student microphone and turned it off, alerting everyone that no further questions or challenges to the conservative idea of ‘wokeness’ would be allowed.
Interestingly, Washington Post columnist Taylor Lorenz discussed a similar story from last February, when Raichik once again failed to comprehend the topic of wokeism she was lecturing on but clearly did not understand.
Chalk this up to the “Blind Leading The Blind,” or “Dumb and Dumbr.”
